About Us

Leon Rohrbaugh Jr. and Pete Dingels formed Better World Builders in 2007 to build with energy-efficient, environmentally aware materials and techniques. Better World Builders excels at working with historic properties. We find solutions that respect history while delivering energy efficiency and comfort. As two licensed contractors with years in the trades, we lead a skilled team to deliver craftsmanship, service and lasting value.

[one_half]In 1999, Leon Rohrbaugh Jr. earned a degree in commercial and residential wiring from Lake Superior College in Duluth. He worked five years in commercial, industrial and residential construction and remodeling.

His ability to manage and problem-solve led him to start a business buying, rehabbing and selling residential real estate with his wife, Britt. At the same time, he worked as a project manager, trim carpenter and cabinet shop leader for Women in Construction LLC of Duluth. He became known there for his ability to conceptualize and fabricate difficult projects and carry them to completion.

In 2006, Rohrbaugh obtained his contractors license, doing business as Homeworks of Duluth, which continues to specialize in interior painting, real estate management and facilities maintenance for residential and commercial properties. When he’s not working, Rohrbaugh volunteers as a leader for Nettleton Elementary School’s World Beat Drummers, heads a funk-inspired praise band at Peace Church and plays guitar and sings in the loud rock act A Band Called Truman. He’s also a devoted father of two, husband of one and a self-described “urban farming machine.”[/one_half]
[one_half_last]Pete Dingels grew up in Minneapolis. He entered the trade as a remodeling laborer at age 16, working on fine homes around the Lake Minnetonka and Minneapolis Lakes area. He moved to Montana and later Colorado, doing remodeling work, and moved to Duluth in 1997 to work for his uncle, Peter Edmunds, of Edmunds and Company Log Home Restoration. With Edmunds he did restoration work on historic log structures and fine homes throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Dingels became a licensed contractor in 2003, doing trim carpentry in fine and historic Duluth homes. That same year, he started using a blower door system and thermal imaging camera to perform energy audits and gather data for remodeling projects. (Dingels, a self-described “energy efficiency nerd,” was among the first contractors to regularly use a thermal imaging camera in Duluth.) Among Dingels’ more visible projects are the Brewhouse Bar and the Red Star Lounge at the Fitger’s Brewery Complex.

In 2010, Dingels was appointed to the Duluth Public Arts Commission to lend a contractor’s perspective to that body’s mission, which is to administer the “One Percent for Art” Amendment revenue for all projects funded by the City of Duluth. In his spare time, Dingels enjoys spending time with his two children; skiing, playing basketball, soccer and baseball; and restoring antique motorcycles. [/one_half_last]
